TOURNAMENT/LEAGUE UPDATES

The girls competed in the Thousand Oaks Classic this weekend and had their best results of the 2010-2011 season. They played with heart and determination, despite losing three teammates to injuries on Saturday. In our opening game we played Apex G96 to a 1-1 draw. Danielle Osborne scored on a cross from Shayna Bartlett to give Madrid the early lead. Shayna would be lost to a ankle injury later in the first half. Apex would tie the game midway through the second half after a mis-communication between our defenders and goalkeeper.
In our second game against Ventura FC, we lost two more players to injury. The first to go off was defender Calley Pruett with a foot injury, then foward Danielle Osborne left with a injured ankle.Despite the injuries the girls fought hard and the game came to a penalty kick awarded to Ventura just before halftime. Goalkeeper Sarah Doughty made a great effort on the shot, however the ball deflected off her hands and into the goal.Final score - Ventura FC 1-0.
The girls next faced Real SoCal Black and would have no substitutes for this game. Madrid scored early as Lexie Barbosa crossed the ball to Sydney Townes for the goal. The girls continued to press the entire game and fought for every loose ball. Madrid had to settle for a 1-1 draw as Real SoCal was able to score in the final minutes.
I want to acknowledge the efforts of all the girls, fowards- Shayna Bartlett, Danielle Osborne, Hannah Tate, Lexie Barbosa, Midfielders- Lauren Reade, Kendall Doud, Sara Chartier, Sydney Townes, Sydney Hunt, Defenders - Calley Pruett, Torrie Smith, Sara Sparks, Carley Chatterley and Goalkeeper Sarah Doughty who recorded 16 saves during the tournament.
